Abstract

The Hajj pilgrimage, as an obligation for Muslims, demands adequate facilities, especially in Indonesia, which has the largest number of pilgrims in the world. Palembang, as the Hajj embarkation point, faces challenges in dormitory facilities, particularly for elderly pilgrims. These include limited accessibility, unfriendly room design, and distances between facilities that hinder mobility. According to data from the South Sumatra Ministry of Religious Affairs in 2025, out of 7,012 pilgrims, 351 were prioritized for the elderly, necessitating more inclusive improvements. This research uses an Islamic architectural approach with the principles of humanity, comfort, simplicity, and physical-spiritual balance through an analysis of pilgrim needs, a literature review, and a study of supporting facilities. The result is the concept of an Integrated Hajj Dormitory in Palembang that is modern, elderly-friendly, and aligned with Islamic values. It is expected to improve comfort, service efficiency, and the spiritual experience of pilgrims, while also serving as a model for developing Hajj facilities in Indonesia.
