Conflict of Interest
Conflict of Interest Policy
Jurnal Ilmu Manajemen is committed to maintaining transparency, objectivity, academic integrity, and fairness throughout the publication process. A conflict of interest occurs when financial, professional, personal, institutional, or other relationships may influence, or may reasonably be perceived to influence, the judgment and decisions of authors, reviewers, or editors in the preparation, evaluation, or publication of a manuscript.
1. Authors' Responsibilities
All authors are required to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that may be related to their submitted manuscript. Such conflicts may include financial support, research funding, employment, consultancy, honoraria, ownership interests, personal relationships, institutional affiliations, or other competing interests that could influence the research or its interpretation.
Authors must provide a conflict of interest statement at the time of manuscript submission. If no conflicts exist, authors should explicitly state: "The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest." Authors are also responsible for disclosing relevant funding sources and the role of sponsors, where applicable, in the research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, and decision to submit the manuscript for publication.
2. Reviewers' Responsibilities
Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts objectively, impartially, and confidentially. Reviewers are required to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that may compromise their independence or impartiality. These may include personal relationships with the authors, academic or professional competition, collaborative relationships, institutional affiliations, financial interests, or other circumstances that could affect their judgment.
Reviewers who identify a conflict of interest must promptly inform the editor and decline the review assignment when the conflict may compromise their impartiality. The editor will determine whether the reviewer may proceed or whether another independent reviewer should be appointed.
3. Editors' Responsibilities
Editors must make editorial decisions based on the manuscript's academic quality, originality, relevance to the journal's scope, methodological rigor, and compliance with publication ethics, without being influenced by personal, financial, institutional, or professional interests.
Editors must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest involving a submitted manuscript or its authors. When a conflict exists, the editor must recuse themselves from handling the manuscript. The manuscript will then be assigned to another qualified and independent editor who has no relevant conflict of interest. The recused editor must not influence the review process or the final publication decision.
4. Disclosure and Management Procedures
All conflicts of interest must be disclosed as early as possible in the editorial process. The journal applies the following procedures:
-
Disclosure: Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest to the editorial team.
-
Initial assessment: The Editor-in-Chief or an independent designated editor assesses the nature and potential impact of the disclosed conflict.
-
Management measures: Depending on the circumstances, the journal may request additional disclosure, appoint an alternative reviewer or editor, restrict participation in editorial decisions, or take other appropriate measures to safeguard the integrity of the publication process.
-
Documentation: Disclosures and decisions concerning conflicts of interest are documented and retained as part of the journal's editorial records.
-
Post-publication concerns: If an undisclosed conflict of interest is identified after publication, the journal will assess the matter and may request a correction, publish an appropriate editorial notice, or take other action consistent with the evidence and relevant publication ethics guidance.
5. Confidentiality and Editorial Independence
All disclosures of conflicts of interest will be handled confidentially and fairly, with information shared only when necessary to assess or manage the conflict. The journal will take reasonable steps to protect the confidentiality of the peer-review process and the rights of all parties involved.
The existence of a conflict of interest does not automatically constitute misconduct or require rejection of a manuscript. However, failure to disclose a relevant conflict, or an attempt to conceal or misrepresent such a conflict, may lead to further assessment and appropriate editorial action.
6. Commitment to Publication Ethics
Jurnal Ilmu Manajemen follows relevant guidance and best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in managing conflicts of interest and safeguarding the integrity of scholarly publishing. The journal is committed to ensuring that all manuscripts are assessed through a transparent, fair, and independent editorial process.
