Article Withdrawal Policy

Didaktika Biologi: Jurnal Penelitian Pendidikan Biologi recognizes that authors may occasionally need to withdraw a submitted manuscript before its formal publication. This policy establishes the conditions and procedures for manuscript withdrawal to ensure transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct throughout the editorial and publication process.

Manuscript withdrawal must be conducted through a formal request to the editorial office. Authors are expected to respect the journal's editorial process and must not withdraw or submit the same manuscript to another journal without appropriate notification and confirmation from the editorial team.

01. Definition of Article Withdrawal

Article withdrawal refers to the formal removal of a manuscript from the journal's editorial or publication process before it is officially published. Withdrawal may be requested by the authors or initiated by the editorial team under specific circumstances.

Withdrawal is different from retraction. Withdrawal applies to manuscripts that have not yet become part of the formally published scholarly record, whereas retraction applies to articles that have already been published.

02. Grounds for Manuscript Withdrawal

A manuscript may be considered for withdrawal under the following circumstances:

  • The authors identify substantial errors in the manuscript that require withdrawal before publication.
  • The manuscript has been submitted to another journal or published elsewhere, resulting in a violation of the journal's submission policy.
  • Serious ethical concerns are identified during the editorial or peer-review process.
  • The authors identify circumstances that make it inappropriate or impossible to continue the publication process.
  • Other justified reasons are presented by the authors and accepted by the editorial team.

03. Withdrawal Request by Authors

Authors who wish to withdraw a manuscript must submit a formal written request to the editorial office. The request must include:

  • The manuscript title and submission identification number, if available.
  • The names of all authors involved in the submission.
  • A clear explanation of the reason for withdrawal.
  • Confirmation that all co-authors agree to the withdrawal request.
  • The corresponding author's confirmation that the request is submitted on behalf of all authors.

The editorial team will review the request and communicate its decision to the corresponding author. A manuscript will be considered withdrawn only after the editorial office has formally confirmed the withdrawal.

04. Withdrawal During the Editorial Process

Authors are expected to maintain their commitment to the journal while a manuscript is undergoing editorial assessment, peer review, or revision. Requests for withdrawal during these stages must be submitted through the official editorial communication channels.

Authors must not submit the same manuscript to another journal while it remains under consideration by Didaktika Biologi. Submission to another journal may proceed only after withdrawal has been formally confirmed by the editorial office.

If authors submit a manuscript elsewhere without notifying the journal or obtaining confirmation of withdrawal, the editorial team may consider this a violation of publication ethics and take appropriate action in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics Policy.

05. Withdrawal Initiated by the Editorial Team

The editorial team may initiate the withdrawal or discontinuation of a manuscript from the publication process when serious concerns or procedural violations are identified.

Such circumstances may include:

  • Evidence of duplicate or simultaneous submission to another journal.
  • Evidence of plagiarism, data fabrication, or data falsification.
  • Failure to comply with essential research ethics requirements.
  • Submission of misleading or substantially inaccurate information during the editorial process.
  • Other serious violations of the journal's editorial and publication ethics policies.

Before making a final decision, the journal will normally provide the corresponding author with an opportunity to respond to the concerns. The editorial team may also request additional information or supporting documents when necessary.

06. Withdrawal After Acceptance but Before Publication

A manuscript that has received an acceptance decision but has not yet been formally published may still be considered for withdrawal under justified circumstances.

Authors must submit a formal withdrawal request and obtain confirmation from the editorial office. The journal will assess the request, considering the stage of publication, the reasons provided, and any applicable publication or administrative obligations.

Acceptance of a manuscript does not automatically authorize authors to withdraw it without informing the journal. Any applicable publication fees or administrative obligations will be handled in accordance with the journal's Publication Fee Policy.

07. Withdrawal Confirmation and Records

Once a withdrawal request has been approved, the editorial office will update the manuscript status in the journal's submission system and notify the corresponding author.

The journal may retain relevant submission records and editorial correspondence for administrative, documentation, and publication ethics purposes. Such records will be handled confidentially and in accordance with applicable data protection requirements.

08. Policy Implementation

The editorial team is responsible for implementing this policy and ensuring that manuscript withdrawal requests are handled consistently and transparently. Didaktika Biologi may take appropriate action when withdrawal procedures are misused or when withdrawal requests involve potential violations of publication ethics.

This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted to Didaktika Biologi, regardless of their stage in the editorial and publication process.
