Correction and Retraction Policy
Didaktika Biologi: Jurnal Penelitian Pendidikan Biologi is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of its published scholarly record. The journal recognizes that errors may occasionally be identified after an article has been published and that serious concerns may arise regarding the reliability or ethical integrity of published research.
This policy establishes the procedures for correcting errors in published articles and retracting articles when necessary. It also outlines the use of an Expression of Concern when significant issues require further investigation.
01. General Principles
The journal is committed to ensuring that corrections and retractions are handled transparently, fairly, and in accordance with publication ethics principles.
- All reported errors and concerns will be assessed based on their nature, seriousness, and potential impact on the published article.
- Authors will normally be given an opportunity to respond to concerns regarding their published work.
- Editorial decisions must be based on available evidence and appropriate consideration of the relevant circumstances.
- Corrections and retractions must be clearly identified and linked to the original article whenever technically possible.
- Published articles must not be silently altered or removed in a way that misleads readers or compromises the scholarly record.
02. Correction of Published Articles
A correction is issued when an error is identified in a published article but the error does not invalidate the overall findings or conclusions of the research. The journal may publish a correction notice to ensure that the published information is accurate and reliable.
Depending on the source of the error, the correction may be classified as follows:
Erratum
An erratum refers to a correction of an error introduced by the journal or publisher during the editorial, typesetting, or publication process. Examples include typographical errors, formatting mistakes, or incorrect information introduced during production.
Corrigendum
A corrigendum refers to a correction of an error originating from the authors, such as an incorrect statement, mislabeled figure, inaccurate table entry, or other unintentional mistake in the published manuscript.
A correction notice should identify the original article, describe the error, provide the corrected information, and explain whether the correction affects the interpretation or conclusions of the research.
The correction notice will be published separately and linked to the original article. The original article will remain accessible with an appropriate reference to the correction.
03. Retraction
Retraction is a formal action taken to withdraw a published article from the active scholarly record when serious concerns undermine the reliability, validity, or ethical integrity of the publication.
Retraction may be considered in circumstances such as:
- Evidence of fabrication or falsification of research data.
- Substantial plagiarism or unattributed duplication of published work.
- Duplicate or redundant publication that compromises the scholarly record.
- Serious errors that invalidate the main findings or conclusions of the article.
- Serious violations of research ethics or inappropriate research practices.
- Manipulation of the peer-review or publication process.
- Other serious forms of misconduct that undermine the credibility of the published article.
Retraction decisions will be made by the editorial team following an appropriate assessment of the available evidence. Authors will normally be contacted and given an opportunity to respond. Where necessary, the journal may consult independent experts or the authors' affiliated institutions.
A retraction notice will clearly identify the retracted article, explain the reason for retraction, and indicate who is retracting the article. The notice will be linked to the original publication.
The original article will generally remain accessible with a clear retraction watermark or equivalent notification to preserve the scholarly record. Removal of the article will only be considered in exceptional circumstances, such as legal requirements or serious risks to privacy and safety.
04. Expression of Concern
An Expression of Concern is a formal notice issued by the journal when significant questions arise regarding a published article, but the available evidence is insufficient to make an immediate decision about correction or retraction.
The journal may issue an Expression of Concern when an investigation is ongoing, when relevant institutions have not yet provided a conclusion, or when unresolved issues may affect readers' interpretation of the article.
The notice will explain the nature of the concern and will be linked to the relevant article. It may be updated or followed by a correction or retraction once further information becomes available.
05. Editorial Assessment and Procedures
When a correction request or concern regarding a published article is received, the editorial team will assess the matter through an appropriate procedure.
- Receipt of report: The journal receives a correction request or notification concerning a published article.
- Initial assessment: The editor evaluates the nature and potential impact of the reported issue.
- Request for clarification: Relevant authors may be contacted and asked to provide explanations or supporting documents.
- Further assessment: When necessary, the journal may seek independent expert advice or contact the authors' affiliated institutions.
- Editorial decision: Based on the available evidence, the journal determines whether a correction, Expression of Concern, or retraction is appropriate.
- Publication of notice: Any formal post-publication notice will be published and linked to the original article whenever technically possible.
The journal will handle all cases fairly and confidentially. The time required to reach a decision may vary depending on the complexity of the case and the availability of relevant information.
06. Maintaining the Scholarly Record
Didaktika Biologi is committed to ensuring that all corrections and retractions are transparent, traceable, and appropriately documented. Correction notices, retraction notices, and Expressions of Concern will be clearly identified and linked to the relevant publication.
The journal will not silently alter or remove published articles to conceal errors or ethical concerns. All editorial actions will be undertaken to protect readers, authors, and the integrity of the scholarly record.
07. Policy Review
The editorial team is responsible for implementing and periodically reviewing this policy. Didaktika Biologi: Jurnal Penelitian Pendidikan Biologi may revise its procedures in response to developments in scholarly publishing standards, publication ethics guidance, and applicable regulations.
